Today (29th July, 2016) is a major milestone in the Healerzone journey, and my own personal development too!
The old site was initially set up nearly 5 years ago. At the time, I thought it was amazing – how quickly technology moves on! Since it was a ‘white-label’ site (which means I could add content but not changed how everything functioned) when I wanted to upgrade, there was very little I could do. Last year, when we floated the idea of local networking groups, and had an immediate response from people in 9 countries saying ‘YES!’ I started looking for a viable, cost-effective alternative. Up until now, I’ve been putting money into the project, and that’s not a great business role model is it? I had conversations with developers around the globe. The few who really seemed to understand what I was trying to achieve and could get behind it, I got quotes from. The numbers floored me. Then I found someone local, who loved the concept, was encouraging, could translate technical language into something I could related to, and was available to actually talk to. Amazing how rare this is.
After months of work, collaboration, and testing, we now have a fairly solid base for moving forward. The website is clean, and clear, fairly user friendly (and yes, I know we will need to tweak stuff, so your feedback will be invaluable!) Most importantly, I let go of the what if’s, overcame a solid case of procrastination and perfectionism, so now the upgraded, completely rebuilt from the platform and code up, is live. WOOHOO!!!
Lots of things have changed. We’ve lost some things that weren’t being used (eg: groups), added different membership levels and opened up the Social level to the general public. The calendar is more effective, and I really like the map search, but it showed up just how few people even put the town they live in. Which is interesting when most people say they want to be found on the Directory so they can reach more clients. Hmmm, some education to be done. As the site settles down with a few more tweaks, the next job is to create ‘how to’ help lists and videos so members can make the most of the community.
Now we have 9 local groups up and running, with several more launches before Christmas, over 4000 members in the Global Healerzone groups plus numerous local hubs, a Twitter feed etc, the Healerzone community is much more than this site.
In the next few weeks we’ll get the online course platform and Marketplace up and running for members to offer their products, services, and e-courses to the public directly. That will turn this Directory into a real hub for people interested in well-being, happiness and related topics.
Please be patient, and let us know what works and what doesn’t (preferably via the Healerzone Helpdesk Forum). We can’t fix what we don’t know about.
Right now, all I want to do is get a really good night’s sleep. Tomorrow is a new day, and I’m looking forward to it. Whatever comes, I’m not on my own – and if you’re part of this community, neither are you.
Together we grow!
